Documents to Bring to the Zim Embassy:
To renew your Zimbabwean Passport from a foreign country that you are currently residing in, you must visit the Zimbabwe Embassy or High Commission with the following original documents and their photocopies where applicable:
1- Zimbabwe National Identity Card – Plastic ID card + 1 x black/white photocopies of both sides
2- Long Birth Certificate + 1 x black/white photocopy.
3- Current Passport. This will be your old passport if it has already expired. Also make photocopies of your current passport as follows:
- 1 x black/white photocopy of back page of your passport. This is the hard covered back page of your passport containing your passport photo, passport number, signature, expiry date, date of issue, identity number, fingerprint and other personal details.
- 1 x black/white photocopy of your latest VISA and residential permit (e.g. Work Permit) that is stamped in your passport.
4- If you are married, then you will also need to bring your Marriage Certificate and a National Identity Card with your new marriage name + 1 x black/white photocopy of each document. Divorced persons should also bring a Divorce Order + 1 x photocopy.
5- 2 x Passport size colour photos (3.5 x 4.5cm).You must wear a black top on your upper body (neck to waistline) and the photo must be taken behind a white background. Your face and hair must be natural – avoid dreads, locks, braids, earrings and face ornamentation like nose rings, tattoos and lip rings. Ladies, do not apply makeup:

Please note that it is IMPORTANT to have all the documents above before you go to the Embassy. This will save time for many foreign-based Zimbabweans who are new to the passport renewal procedure outside of Zimbabwe. It will help you avoid many unnecessary trips to and from the Embassy just because you forgot to bring some of the required documents. In case you don’t have some of the required documents above, then you should consult the Zim Embassy for special advice. Now that you have all the documents mentioned above, you should go to the Zimbabwe Embassy or High Commission to get your Passport Application Form.

Documents the Embassy will Give You & What they will Do
When you bring the above documents to the Zim Embassy, the following will happen:
1. The Embassy will give you a Passport Application Form “Application for a Zimbabwe Passport”.
2. They will take your fingerprints on the back page of the application form.
3. The cost of the Application Form and Fingerprints is $20.00 which is equivalent to R200.00 (South African Rands).You must pay in cash at the Embassy and they will give you a receipt.
4. The Embassy will certify photocopies of your Passport, Birth certificate and National ID Card.
5. The cost of certifying is $10.00 or R100.00.You must pay in cash at the Embassy and they will give you a receipt. You get one receipt for the Application form, Fingerprints and Certification, so the total cost is R300.00.This receipt will be stamped and signed by the Zim Embassy.
6. The Embassy will sign your Letter of Submission and Letter of Collection and put a stamp of approval on each of your letters.
7. The Embassy will give you a form (a questionnaire) to be filled by the applicant.
After the above procedure, the embassy will give back your original documents and certified photocopies, as well as the receipt, passport application form,questionnaire,letter of submission and collection. You must make photocopies of your receipt and keep them. Your receipt is required as proof of payment. Do not lose it.
Documents to Send to Zimbabwe
When you get your things done at the Embassy, you will be required to send your documents to your family or relatives in Zimbabwe. Your family member or relative who is required to have the same surname as you should submit the documents for you at the Passport Office in Harare or Bulawayo. You can send your documents to Zimbabwe via DHL or FEDEX.DHL is the widely used and trusted courier. Your family member or relative must bring his or her ID for identification on submitting and collecting the documents at the Passport Office.
The following are documents to send to Zimbabwe. The assistant at the Zimbabwe Embassy will help you organize your documents and attach them accordingly.
1. Passport Application Form with fingerprints. You must fill the form.
2. Inside the passport application form, you will attach the following documents with a paper clip:
- Original letter of Submission (signed and stamped by the Embassy)
- Original letter of Collection (signed and stamped by the Embassy)
- Original Receipt (for passport form, fingerprints and certifying) – signed and stamped by the Embassy.
- Certified photocopy of your Passport (certified by the Embassy)
- Certified photocopy of your National Identity Card (certified by the Embassy)
- Certified photocopy of your Long Birth Certificate (certified by the Embassy)
- 2 x Passport size colour photos (3.5 x 4.5) cm inside a small envelope.
- Questionnaire to be filled by the applicant.
3. Your Current or Expired Passport. If your passport is lost, then you must consult the Zim Embassy for special advice.

1 to 2 Week Passport – US$250.00

What You will Collect
When your passport application has been processed and completed, you will receive your new passport along with your old passport. Your family or relatives in Zimbabwe will send the documents to you via DHL.

ReplyDeleteContact the Zim Embassy in Kenya, they can process a temporary travel document or emergency travel document which is valid for 6 months. To get a new passport, you might need to travel to Zimbabwe. But if you still have your old passport or expired passport, you can go with it to the Zim Embassy in Kenya to apply for a new one.

You are lucky you still have a passport copy.Go to the police station with your passport copy and get a police report (affidavit). You will tell them that your passport was lost, and therefore you need a police report to take to the embassy. Take the Police Report to the Zim Embassy and they will give you a 6 months TTD temporary travel document, which you can use to travel to Zimbabwe and get a new passport.

ReplyDeleteYou have to send all the stated documents including your current passport to Zimbabwe, eventually your current passport is going to expire anyway.The passport office in Zimbabwe will clip your current passport on one corner, and return it back to you along with the new passport.Renewing a passport means that your replacing your current passport, and you can only have one passport for travelling purposes.The old passport has to be invalidated, but this does not invalidate the VISAs stamped in your passport.That's why it's recommended to keep your old passports to show proof of your VISAs. As for temporary proof of identification, you can ask the Embassy to give you a TTD. If the embassy was authorized to clip your current passport, then you wouldn't need to send it to Zim.

ReplyDeleteIf the child is in Zimbabwe, the best thing is to send the passport to Zimbabwe via DHL and they the mother and child can renew at the passport office. Applying at the South African embassy is for Zimbabweans who are resident in SA, and in this case your child is not in SA, they will want to know the whereabouts of the child that you are applying for.

DeleteHi I did manage to get hold of the embassy and they said in my case all i need is to go there with a copy of my passport and my child's copy of birth certificate, then apply for what they call section 5 which is a form i fill to allow my mother to apply the child's passport on my behalf.
DeleteHi yes for children under 18 years, one of the parents or legal guardian has to sign section 5, which is actually your authorization as a parent so you will need to state a family member or relative who will submit/collet the documents on your behalf when you write the Letter of Submission & Collection.

DeleteThe whole process is done at the Zim Embassy, they will tell you what to do. You cannot send the documents without the approval of the Embassy. Your documents have to be certified and stamped by the Embassy.

She changed her I.D to carry my surname sometime back after our wedding however, the passport to be renewed carries her surname and obviously since there is an I.D required for the process for the new passport being applied will it reflect her maiden name and my surname on the back cover or just husband's surname? The reason why I am asking is that she has a permanent residency permit for South Africa with her surname since it was applied before change of surname on Zimbabwean I.D. Will the new passport being applied with my surname not contradict the permanent residency permit with her surname but not mine when crossing borders? How do you deal with such a situation? The passport is out in Harare but my next of kin is told they cant collect it because i need to 1st cancel the one im using here. May you please advice what the process is to cancel the passport and also do i need to go back in Zim to collect that new passport so as to get entry stamp in the new passport.

Goodday.I would like to renew my passport at the Zimbean consulate in Pretosriaria, which is about to expire. The problem I see you need me to produce the new plastic ID document which I do not have but the old aluminium one. Hi my father in law I originally from zim he came to south Africa abt 20 years ago and work on the farm where his boss use yo renew his passport for him , the boss decided to move fromwhere they were staying I went with his document now he has nothing and wants to take is documents for his south african born children but home affairs wants his passport in order to change his son surname from mother surname to fathers surname.

ReplyDeleteI am still holding an old paper ID and a birth certificate and I am living in South Africa. I tried to apply for a permanent residence permit before my work permit expired but I was told it takes a lot of time unless I use "private" agents. After trying to use them, they really took me to Home affairs and we collected the application forms and filled them at home. After some time the permit came attached to the passport page. They refused to show or give me a permanent residence certificate and they said I must pay them the remaining balance first. Latter I was told by many offices that my permanent residence permit may be fake because South Africa is no longer issuing such stickers. I am told if I go to Home Affairs and try to verify its validity I may not come out, but they will simply arrest me. Please advise me, what next must l do?

Yes it is possible, just make sure you have all the required documents & copies when you go to the embassy. It would be good to consider the charges as well
DeleteIn cases of a lost passport is it mandatory to travel to Zim to get a new one or if all documents are listed it can be done without leaving SA.

Hi, I need help. I am currently living in SA. I have a work permit that expires in 2021. However, my passport expires in December 2020. Is there a way in which I can renew my passport without sending the current passport to Zim since it has a valid permit and sending it to Zim would mean that I wont have a permit, and will find it extremely difficult to renew the permit in that event that it is renewed. I do not have an ID, I only have a Birth certificate - I emigrated to SA 10 years ago when I was still a teenager. Is there a way in which I can renew it without an ID too?
